Wedding rings are more than expensive jewellery , they have a long history of symbolism, which began about 4800 years ago in ancient Egypt. The Egyptians believed rings had links to the supernatural and the circle was their symbol for eternity, making it an appropriate symbol for eternal love.
The first wedding bands were fashioned from sedges, rushes and reeds surrounding the River Nile, which was considered to be the bringer of great fortune and life. The Romans modernised this idea soon after by using iron for their wedding bands because of its durability. But iron rusts and plant matter rots so thankfully, these have been replaced by gold, silver, platinum or metal blends.
Today, women need a ‘working ring’ and expect to wear their ring in every situation whether to the shop, pub, gym or work. So make sure you choose something you won’t get sick of and get a guarantee from the jeweller about its durability.
These days, many people take wedding bands and engagement rings for granted, and although they give these beautiful items of jewellery with integrity and love, they are often given with no real knowledge of the meaning behind them.

White gold jewellery
White gold is an alloy of gold and some white metals such as silver and palladium. White gold can be 18kt, 14kt, 9kt or any karat. For example, 18kt yellow gold is made by mixing 75% gold (750 parts per thousand) with 25% (250 parts per thousand) other metals such as copper and zinc. 18kt white gold is made by mixing 75% gold with 25% other metals such as silver and palladium. So the amount of gold is the same but the alloy is different.
Traditionally nickel was used in white gold, however, nickel is no longer used in most white gold made today as nickel can cause reactions with some people. We do not use nickel in our white gold
When white gold rings are new they are coated with another white metal called Rhodium. Rhodium is a metal very similar to platinum and Rhodium shares many of the properties of platinum including its white color.
Jewelry in its most basic form has been used since the dawn of of man's use of tools and clothing. Until recently, researchers had believed that the ability to use symbolism did not develop until humans had migrated to Europe 35,000 to 40,000 years ago. Recently discovered mollusk or nassarius kraussianus shells that had been perforated to be made into beads are now thought to be some of the oldest known man-made Jewelry. This mollusk jewelry was discovered in a cave in Blombos, South Africa, and dates back to the Middle Stone Age 100,000 years ago. Other readily available natural materials used to make the first jewelry include animal teeth, bone, various types of shells, carved stone and wood. Most likely, jewelry started out as a functional item used to pin articles of clothing together and was later adapted to a purely aesthetic adornment.
Used as a symbol of wealth and/or status as well as to protect against harm, ward of evil, and heal ailments, jewelry was used to adorn nearly every part of the body and has been made out of almost every material known to mankind.
Care of white gold:
White gold is looked after more or less the same way as yellow gold products. It has a thin layer of rhodium plating, which can wear off after continual use. This can be prevented by rhodium plating the white gold products after at least every six months. A little effort will keep your white gold jewelry in perfect condition.

Pearl jewellery
A freshwater pearl is a pearl that is cultured in a mussel in a lake, whereas the traditional cultured pearl is cultured in an oyster in the ocean (salt water pearls are called Akoya pearls). Freshwater cultured pearls are less expensive than the Akoya pearls.
Pearl characteristics:
The value of a pearl is determined by its Lustre, Surface, Shape, color and Size.
Lustre:
Lustre is the most important factor in choosing pearls. The inner glow of the pearl combined with the surface brilliance defines lustre. The higher the lustre, the thicker the nacre or secretion from the oyster and the stronger the glow.
Surface:
The smoothness of the pearl's surface, from clean to heavily blemished, is the next consideration. Cracks or breaks in the nacre are considered damage. Because pearls are grown in an oyster and are organic gems they are almost never flawless.
Shape:
Similarly, it is very rare to find a perfectly round pearl. The rounder the pearl, however, the more valuable it is. Slightly off-round, semi-baroque and baroque pearls are not as valuable as perfectly round pearls.
Color:
Cultured pearls range in color from white to black with various mult-colored overtones. The color of the pearl is really the wearer's preference.
Size:
Cultured pearls are measured in millimetres. All other factors being equal, the larger the pearl the rarer and more valuable it is.
Pearls are currently back in fashion again. Modern twists show pearls being interspaced on gold or silver wire, floating on special synthetic cord or as traditional pearl necklaces with suspended interchangeable pendants often in materials like jade, peridot and lapis lazuli. The variety of new pearl designs, interesting new shapes, sizes and colours, make them the perfect jewel essential to the noughties. Pearls are also the perfect gift for anytime of year, for any age group.
Rules of care pearls"
The most important way to prevent damage to your pearls is by following the golden rule of putting your pearls on as the last thing you do when finishing your grooming. Put the pearls on after you have applied make up, perfume and hair sprays, never before. Don't spray your perfume on the neck area where the pearls will actually sit and avoid touching your pearls when you have just applied hand cream. If you need to reapply hair spray at some time, slip the pearls off for a moment and put them well out of the damage zone.
Likewise make pearls the first thing you remove after a night out, before you wipe your face and neck with cleansers or facial wipes, or night creams.
Don't touch your pearls with your fingers if eating bar snack foods which sometimes have chilli style powders on them. Such spices can damage the surface of pearls. I once damaged my new Mabé pearl earrings when eating chilli style taco biscuits at a party. One earring still has a minute little speckle spot where the chilli powder rested. I was lucky the spot is so tiny, but the spice speck literally burnt into side of the pearl.

Handmade jewelry is jewelry which has been assembled and formed by hand rather than through the use of machines. According to the guidelines of the FTC, in order to be stamped or called "handmade" the work must be made solely by hand power or hand guidance. In essence, this means that jewelry may be made using drills, lathes, or other machinery, but it must be guided by human hand. This precludes the use of punch presses, CNC machinery and casting to name a few processes that would not qualify as "handmade". Beyond that caveat it can be anything made out of anything that would be considered jewelry.
Jewellery has been used to denote status. In ancient Rome, for instance, only certain ranks could wear rings, Later, sumptuary laws dictated who could wear what type of jewellery; again based on rank. Cultural dictates have also played a significant role; for example, the wearing of earrings by Western men was considered "effeminate" in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Handmade bracelets
Bracelets - alone or in clusters - are one of the most popular forms of jewelry. Present since the earliest times, a hinged hoop bracelet inlaid with gems was found in the tomb of the Egyptian Queen Ashhotep.
The handmade bracelet probably evolved from talismans. Fashionable in the 1950s, they recently experienced a revival and the charms are usually personal or symbolic. Handmade leather bracelets vary from braids with sterling silver to wide leather bands that communicate a sense of power.
Today's beaded bracelets are traditional but also may include ceramic globes, gemstones and even beads made from recycled magazines. The simple elegance of tennis bracelets makes them a perennial favorite. And unusual materials like brass, palm fibers, bamboo and wood each have an informal beauty all their own.
Handmade bracelets and unique bracelets are handcrafted exclusively by the artisan of Copper Reflections. Handmade bracelets are available in cuff, chain and bangle bracelet styles. Unique bracelets by the artisans of Copper Reflections are available in a great assortment of unique jewelry designs.
Handmade jewelry will make perfect gifts for any gift giving occasion including birthday gifts, anniversary gifts and Christmas gifts. Handmade bracelets are offered in vast selections of Native American Indian jewelry, flower, nature, animal jewelry and wildlife themes. Animal jewelry bracelet designs include horse jewelry, dolphin, butterfly, dragonfly, hummingbird, cat jewelry and many more. Children's jewellery
We have certainly been busy with our children’s jewellery ranges and we’re happy to say that some more have been added to the site.
One of the new ranges from our suppliers is the Me To You range – featuring the lovely Tatty Teddy character that’s so famous – you’re sure to have seen him all over the place – cards, pictures, etc. – he’s a little cutie and certainly makes for an ideal present for a collector or someone who likes bears.
The range is for the older child with quite a few of the pieces are for teenagers and all the pieces are made in sterling silver. Each item comes in its own blue Me To You presentation box for a ready made present.
Before anything else, ask if he or she wants to be a part of the wedding. Some kids actually end up crying or giving tantrums on the wedding day itself because they do not want to be there. Explain the importance the event and his or her role. If your child knows what he or she is suppose to do there and says yes willingly, then you can at least be assured that he or she wants to be the flower girl or the ring bearer.
Be there with your child on the rehearsal dinner and fittings. This will assure you kid that you support them and that there is no need for apprehensions. It’s also a good thing that your child knows the bride or groom’s family so that he or she will be at ease and will have more fun on the date itself.
The night before the wedding, make sure that your child is properly rested and sleeps early. Make sure that she gets enough rest so that he or she can wake up bright and early the next morning.
This might seem a nightmarish scenario for you children having short attention spans but children are never too young to be exposed to music, films and museums. The younger they are the better. Children can be inspired by external stimuli and their minds absorb information like a sponge.
Birthdays are one of the most special celebrations for any child. Younger children have a different understanding of how truly a special day it is. But when they turn eight years old, they now acquire a different perspective, especially for girls.
A perfect birthday party would be a sweet eight birthday party where your little girl can experience an initiation into girlhood.

Engagement ring
At Engagement Ring, our engagement rings and wedding bands are artfully crafted to finest quality with precious metal or combination of metals of your liking. Our platinum and palladium engagement rings and wedding rings are manufactured with 95% platinum or palladium. We can manufacture the engagement rings in platinum, palladium, titanium, 14K, 18K (white, yellow or rose gold or combinations) gold.
Clouded in mystery, the exact origin of engagement rings is unclear. Some more romantic people say that the circle symbolises the eternal union while others trace it to a part payment of the groom's financial commitment to his future wife and her family! Whichever is correct, a handmade engagement ring is the perfect way to represent two people's love and commitment to each other and has stood the test of time.
Perhaps the earliest suggested source of the engagement ring tradition was in ancient Egypt, where rings were worn on the 4th finger of the left hand, as this was where the "Vena Amoris" or "Vein of Love" was thought to run to the heart. However, the Christian tradition of wearing an engagement ring on that finger only dates from the 1549 prayer book and prior to that rings were worn on the 3rd finger of the right hand. Another reason for using the 4th finger is that the priest or groom would put the engagement ring on the first three fingers in turn when saying "the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost", finishing on the fourth finger where it would then stay.
By the Middle Ages, betrothal and wedding ceremonies had become combined so the idea of a seperate engagement ring began to mark the change in status of the financee and to emphasise the significance of the betrothal.
In the United States and Canada today it is becoming more common, but still rare, that a woman will also buy her partner an engagement ring at the time of the engagement. These may be called male engagement rings or man-agement rings, which is a portmanteau of "man" and "engagement ring".This practice is more common in other countries.
Before agreeing to marry, a couple may choose to buy and wear pre-engagement rings, also called promise rings. After marrying, the couple may wear both engagement rings and wedding rings, or just their wedding rings, as they prefer.

Ancient egypt jewellery
Jewelry has played various roles in ancient Egypt. In addition to man's natural attraction to beautiful items, jewelry had a religious and magical significance in the Egyptian ancient world by protecting the wearer from evil.
Ancient Egyptians began making their jewelry during the Badari and Naqada eras from simple natural materials; for example, plant branches, shells, beads, solid stones or bones. These were arranged in threads of flax or cow hair. To give these stones some brilliance, Egyptians began painting them with glass substances. Since the era of the First Dynasty, ancient Egyptians were skilled in making jewelry from solid semiprecious stones and different metals such as gold and silver.
The first evidence of jewelry making in Ancient Egypt dates back to the 4th millennia BC, to the Predynastic Period of along the Nile River Delta in 3100 BC, and the earlier Badarian culture (named after the El-Badari region near Asyut) which inhabited Upper Egypt between c.4500 BC and c.3200 BC. From 2950 BC to the end of Pharaonic Egypt at the close of the Greco-Roman Period in 395 AD, there were a total of thirty-one dynasties, spanning an incredible 3,345 years.
Egyptian jewelry items included such commonly found ornamentation as bracelets, brooches, clasps, coronets, girdles, and earrings, but also included items that were unique to ancient Egypt. The pectoral, which is an ornamental item that has been found on many mummies, is an elaborate breast decoration that was suspended by chain or ribbon, and decorated to represent various dieties. There was also a unique headdress that formed a type of outer wig, flowing like waves of hair in long, flexible strands of gold beads. This was held in place by a gold diadem, which was designed to secure the wig during ceremonies.
In ancient Egypt, gem carvings (glyptic art) in the form of scarab beetles and other sacred objects was worn for its religious significance. Both men and women wore jewelry as protection from evil and as a symbol of wealth and status as well as for adornment. Jewelry was worn by wealthy Egyptians in life, but it was also worn by them in death in order to assist in the journey to, and serve as comforts in, the afterlife.Today Egyptian jewelry makers make beautiful imitations of ancient Egyptian jewelry which are sold in jewelry stores or on online shops on the Internet. Most of the Paharaonic style jewelry are silver and gold utilizing the Ankh symbol, cartouche and ancient Egyptian gods, kings and queens.
Jewellery has always been a fascination, especially when it involves ancient signs and symbols. Egyptian jewellery is popular all over the world because of its magical quality and the mysteries that it holds. Ancient Egyptian jewellery symbols include the Scarab, ankh, the eye of Horus, pyramids, the healing sign, and Temple Gate. Many other ancient signs are also popular which are still considered powerful and sacred by some people.
This unique craft though is making a comeback in Pasadena, California, of all places. Internationally known as the city that hosts the News Years Day Rose Parade, it now also can boast a new store called ElizaWire Jewelry Designs which is carrying on the ancient art of wire sculpted jewelry. This style of jewelry is also referred to as wire wrap jewelry, but artist, Elizabeth Smith, owner of ElizaWire Jewelry, prefers to describe her work as wire sculpting because it’s a more accurate reflection of her work. According to her, “wire wrapped jewelry is really only the technique that literally wraps a gemstone in place with little decoration or design, but sculpted wire design incorporates artistic twists and turns of the wire itself to make a unique design that will showcase the gemstone.
The new store has opened up within Pasadena’s Premier Jewelry Mall in the Playhouse district of the city, next to the Paseo Colorado shopping/theater/dining complex. The store’s is located in the historic Pacific Southwest Trust & Savings Bank building which features marble floors, and ornately decorated high ceilings, with sky lights. Their grand opening corresponds to the opening of their new website, ElizaWire.com , as well. There they plan to showcase their latest creations available for sale in the store, and on-line as well.

Caring of cocktail jewellery
Storing:
Cocktail Jewellery pieces are made from semi-precious stones and silver. The components are real stones, not plastic imitations and so some are quite delicate due to their natural properties. Items should be stored in separate sections of a jewellery box or individually wrapped up in velvet, paper or silk and stored out of direct light.
Silver clasps:
The silver clasps used in Cocktail Jewellery are 92.5% silver. Over time, silver will naturally tarnish and will need to be cleaned by polishing with a silver cloth. Tarnish is caused by a reaction between the silver, oxygen and sulphur. However, it can also be caused by hair spray, lotions or other personal care products if they come in contact with your jewellery. We advise that you apply hairspray and perfumes before putting on your jewellery.
Earrings and Rings:
The silver in our rings and earring hooks can be cleaned should they tarnish over time by polishing with a silver cloth.
Freshwater Pearls:
The pearl components found in many of our bridal pieces are genuine freshwater pearls and therefore a natural material. They are cultured and grown in pearl farms as opposed to being fished from their natural sea environment. A gentle rub between your finger-tips with a slightly damp cloth should suffice if cleaning is needed.
Hair Jewellery:
The hair jewellery in the Cocktail Jewellery Bridal range is made with a silver plated wire. This wire is prone to natural tarnishing over time and can be rubbed with a silver polishing cloth to restore the wire back to its silver shine. The wires are also bendable so if the clip appears misshapen over time, the wires can be moved and bent until the design again looks pleasing to the eye.
General Advice:
Please follow the recommendations below so that you can wear your Cocktail Jewellery for a longer time and keep them looking as good as the day you bought them!
Always remove your jewellery when engaging in activities that risk impact or exposure to chemicals (e.g. sports or housework).
The nylon thread we use in our necklace range is a strong, robust material. However, it should still be treated with care as it can be subject to wear and tear over time. Have a jeweller restring your pearl or stone necklaces every two years (or annually if you wear them frequently).
Always check for loose gems/stones and clasps before wearing your jewellery.
We hope you enjoy wearing your Cocktail Jewellery as much as we have enjoyed designing the collection.

Latest changing in area of jewellery
Changes in area of jewellery:
The modern jewellery movement began in the late 1940s at the end of World War II with a fashiorenewed interest in artistic and leisurely pursuits. The movement is most noted with works by Georg Jensen and other jewellery designers who advanced the concept of wearable art. The advent of new materials, such as plastics, Precious Metal Clay (PMC) and colouring techniques, has led to increased variety in styles. Other advances, such as the development of improved pearl harvesting by people such as Mikimoto Kōkichi and the development of improved quality artificial gemstones such as moissanite (a diamond simulant), has placed jewellery within the economic grasp of a much larger segment of the population.
The "jewellery as art" movement was spearheaded by artisans such as Robert Lee Morris and continued by designers such as Gill Forsbrook in the UK. Influence from other cultural forms is also evident; one example of this is bling-bling style jewellery, popularized by hip-hop and rap artists in the early 21st century.
• Yellow gold has made a sudden comeback in the world of fashion, and yellow gold jewellery is in hot demand this season. Yellow gold adds warmth and sensuality on fashion canvas, making women more beautiful.
• Gold chains made a comeback in perfect sync with new colors and textures. Gold chains worn around the neck, long and hippie style or fixed around the waist like a belt, slipped onto a wrist, or gold chains draped across the hips in three or four strands.
• Thread type Gold necklaces are common with gold threads woven into a knit and creating a silk-look perfect finish for a yellow gold necklace.
• In an era of chat rooms and instant messaging, white gold is favored by young gold jewellery consumers. When young people buy gold jewellery they want something that tells a tale.
The late 20th century saw the blending of European design with oriental techniques such as Mokume-gane. The following are innovations in the decades stradling the year 2000: "Mokume-gane, hydraulic die forming, anti-clastic raising, fold-forming, reactive metal anodizing, shell forms, PMC, photoetching, and [use of] CAD/CAM.
Crystals are everywhere in the full spectrum of color. What better way to bring life to a structured dress with little detail than to accessorize it with brightly colored rocks. One statement accessory is enough. A small collection of statement jewelry is all you need to create your signature look. Wear one item at a time with your favourite dress. A change of accessories freshens your look instantly.
More recently, the display of body jewellery, such as piercings, has become a mark of acceptance or seen as a badge of courage within some groups, but is completely rejected in others. Likewise, the hip hop culture has popularized the slang term bling-bling, which refers to ostentatious display of jewellery by men or women.
Cuff bracelets are statement jewels that turn a simple sheathe into a stunning outfit. Your little black sleeveless dress or strapless gown looks even more amazing with the addition of a single cuff bracelet.
Latest changes in area of jewellery:
Navel ornaments, like-belly rings, belly buttons, bent barbells, dangling navel rings etc. All these can be finding with colored beads, which is very popular among the women youth. Navel ornaments with bare mid drifts and crop tops create a stunning, sexy looks, which has an erotic effect also. This style is a craze from film stars to common people in new age. Navel ornaments with blinking, color-changing flashers are hot favorite now.
Tongue rings and lip rings are becoming trendy among other body piercing jewelry. A tongue ring is visible when a person talks to other. It can make exotic, adorable impression with your words. Person with a lip ring can easily indicate the person's adventurous nature. Today's generation is ready to accept all the challenge to be adventurous about any fashion trend.
But the most popular facial piercing is eyebrow piercing, especially among the men. Eyebrow ring and eyebrow studs are eyebrow-piercing jewelry. These are very popular and setting a trend in young male.
Gold jewellery trend:
Gold jewelry is a classic beauty. From old days to the present generation, it never runs out of style. It is a best gift for friends or love ones both young and old since it appeals to the taste of anyone.
Things to Look for when Buying Gold Jewelry Buyers should also exert their effort in finding if the gold jewelry has a return policy or money back guarantee. If they fail to give these options then do not ever think of buying anything from them since you would most likely find yourself submerged in deep mud later on.
Some would learn the hard way; there are other people who would merely know the real state of their jewelry only after they experienced rashes on their skin.
Moreover, a buyer should as well realize that not all gold jewelries are alike. If you would want to buy something which can outlast the daily wear and tear then opting for solid gold jewelry rather than coats pieces is a sensible mean to take since the coating of the later would peal off after some time thus causing allergic reaction. If in case you are looking for a ring which will be given as an engagement gift or wedding ring then going for solid pieces would assure you of its resiliency.
Rose gold jewellery:
Yellow and white gold are undoubtedly the top-scorers in the contemporary jewelry design. But the Gen-X designers are keen more on bringing out the versatility of gold than sticking to the traditional yellow version. And that explains the colored gold's bold invasion of the contemporary fashion circuit. The color pink is quintessentially associated with everything soft and feminine and rose gold jewelry can help you flaunt your feminine charms to the best effect.
Russia is regarded as the birthplace of rose gold and as such it is often referred to as Russian gold. Russian artisans were believed to introduce rose gold jewelry in the early 19thcentury. By 1920's it took Europe by storm. It has made a bold come back in the 21st century.
So far as rose gold is concerned, its pink shade often puzzles the gold buyers. A gold jewelry that is not yellow, but pink in color---how's this possible! A class of consumer just refuses to believe that gold can be available in other than its regular yellow version. Some believe rose gold is plain imitation.
Now rose gold jewelry pieces are available in 18K, 14K and 9K gold. Rose gold obtains its distinctive pinkish hues from the blend of gold and copper. Copper is added to make traditional yellow gold jewelry, but in case of rose-gold, the proportion of copper is much higher. More copper is added to bring out its unique rosey hues.
Dimond Jewellery:
Diamonds are wonderful presents due to their beauty, rarity, durability and glamour. Diamond gifts seem to be always appreciated. Diamonds stand for purity, eternal love and faith in most countries.
The hot designs of today can become obsolete for coming years, but once again they’ll be in latest fashion after some years or decades. How Examine Dimond:
To accurately judge the quality of a diamond, it is advisable to use more than the naked eye. Here are common ways to examine a diamond.
Microscope: To examine inclusions, one uses either a microscope or a 10x magnifying glass called a jeweler's loop. This enables one to see inclusions in stones. Most dealers will let you use theirs.
Diamond Tester: A diamond tester uses light to verify that the stone you are examining is really a diamond. It does not guarantee quality -- just the type of stone. Most testers will still work when the stone is mounted. Jewelry Mall Diamond Tester Search Results.
Certification: If you are unsure of your diamond knowledge or the jeweler you are buying from, get a certified Diamond. The best known and reliable certification is from GIA (Gemological Institute of America) or EGL (European Gemological Laboratory). Be aware that certificates will cost you an extra $100-$200 on average.

Wearing your birthstone is considered very lucky and is thought to provide the wearer with good fortune.Birthstones are gemstones that are associated with each month. Feburary Birthstone
Feburary Birthstone:
Amethyst.
Amethyst:
February’s birthstone, has been fashionable as a decorative stone since the days of the ancient Egyptians and Greeks. This gemstone is important to healers, as it is widely distributed and therefore very reasonable in price. Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz. The mineral quartz, both natural as well as synthetic, has numerous industrial uses and practical applications, as in electronic devices and as resonators to generate waves of a fixed frequency. Purple amethyst, though, is valued as a gemstone, by collectors and jewelry enthusiasts, and as beads, bookends, sculptured carvings, bottles and boxes, and other decorative items.
February's purple birthstone has been found among the possessions of royalty throughout the ages. The intense violet hue of Amethyst appealed to early monarchs, perhaps because they often wore this color. Purple dye was scarce and expensive at one time, and so it was reserved for the garments of kings and queens. Amethyst has been found in ruins dating as far back as the ninth century, adorning crowns, scepters, jewelry, and breastplates worn into battle. A large Amethyst is among the closely guarded gemstones in the British Crown Jewels.
The "cursed amethyst" in the photo was donated to the Natural History Museum in London. Former owners reported that every individual who has owned the stone since the mid 1850s suffered from some type of disaster or misfortune.
Amethyst is famous for its purple color. Not all amethyst is purple in color, there are also light purple, reddish-purple, bluish-purple, dark purple and there is even almost black in color. Since purple has always been the color of royalty, amethysts abound in the ornaments of in the British Crown jewels and in the adornments of the ancient Greeks and Egyptians as well. Tibetans consider amethyst sacred to Buddha and fashion rosaries from amethyst beads.
The name “amethyst” comes from the Greek which means “sober”. In ancient Greece, the gemstone was associated with the god of wine, and it was common practice to serve this beverage from amethyst goblets in the belief that this would prevent overindulgence
